TETTRIX project makes its first public appearance at TDWG 2026

On 21-25 October, TETTRIX made its official public debut at the Annual TDWG Conference in Oslo, Norway. For this edition of the conference, the Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) used the theme “Research and Robot-ready Biodiversity Data Standards”, which gathered researchers, project leaders, and students for discussions on topics ranging from taxonomy and biodiversity infrastructures to community science and knowledge extraction.

Conference Presentations

Multiple of the TETTRIX partners joined TDWG 2026 as presenters during the conference sessions. For instance, David Fichtmüller from the Botanic Garden Berlin gave a presentation titled “Approaches to the Automated Tracking of Taxonomic Research Activities”, and in connection he also shared how the previous TETTRIs project has been continued by its highly ambitious and innovative descendant TETTRIX. You can read the full story in this article.

Another one of our partners, Patricia Mergen from the University of Crete also discussed this tight-knit connection between the two projects during her presentation titled “Strengthening Taxonomic capacity and Biodiversity Information in Education”. The presentation delved deeper into the Upskill Pillar of TETTRIX, which is strongly focused on providing training and certification for future taxonomists. Patricia also shared a bit more information on some of TETTRIX’s upcoming outputs – the TETTRIX Academy and the Taxonomists4Future initiative, which aim to provide current and future taxonomy experts with many more pathways for realisation and growth in the field.

Dissemination Corner

In addition to the excellent presentations from our partners, TETTRIX also co-sponsored a dissemination booth with the biodiversity projects Biodiversity Meets Data and ANERIS, as well as with one of our partnering organisations – Pensoft Publishers. The dissemination booth displayed our brand new promotional materials, such as brochures and stickers, that the conference participants could take and read more about our mission towards improving taxonomy in Europe.

The TDWG Conference gave us a great opportunity to introduce the project to the biodiversity field and build many personal connections with the communities involved in it. In a few days, the TETTRIX team will officially meet for our Kick-off Meeting (7-9 October) to decide how TETTRIX will unfold from now on.
